Remodeled Fischer Platz in Frankenmuth open for summer fun

Bavarian Inn Restaurant offers unique outdoor entertainment along with food and drink

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. – June 30, 2022 – The Bavarian Inn’s own answer to a German biergarten, the remodeled Fischer Platz, is open for outdoor summer fun in the heart of Frankenmuth with a special entertainment line-up.

The Fischer Platz, which faces Main Street, features live entertainment, draft and bottled beer (including plenty of German varieties), as well as an updated food menu that includes fresh baked pretzels, popcorn, spaetzle and other German favorites.

In addition to Linda Lee daily performances beginning at 2 p.m., the Fischer Platz hosts featured bands on Fridays, and special events on Saturdays. Karaoke is also available every Saturday from 9:30-11 p.m.

For a full schedule of entertainment check out this exciting line-up.

The Fischer Platz is open: Monday from 12-6 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 12-9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 12-11 p.m., and every Sunday from 12-8 p.m. The Fischer Platz is closed on Tuesdays, and closes for the season on Sept. 18.

During its upgrade last year the Fischer Platz was updated with a new outdoor surface (with a portable dance floor), a revamped entertainment schedule that features free performances and a new menu for guests who enjoy the outdoor setting.

The outdoor biergarten is named after the Fischer family who first developed a restaurant in Frankenmuth. Later they sold the restaurant to William “Tiny” Zehnder’s family, who today run the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, the Bavarian Inn Lodge and the River Place shops.

New Lorelei Lounge mural depicts German legend

Painting showcases Bavarian Inn Lodge restaurant’s namesake

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. – June 3, 2022 – A beautiful mural has been unveiled inside the Lorelei Lounge at the Bavarian Inn Lodge, bringing to life the story of the legendary German maiden for whom the lounge is named.

Designed by Bavarian Inn Lodge founder Judy Zehnder and painted by local artist Kevin Burdick, the murals depicts the famous story of one of the well-known spots along the Rhine River. The siren (Lorelei) would sing. When ships on the river would go by, the sailors would lose their focus because of her song and crash their boats.

Besides Lorelei, the new mural depicts six castles or fortresses along the Rhine River surrounding Lorelei’s cliff. They are Burg Maus, Burg Katz, Burg Rheinfels, Burg Schönburg, Burg Gütenfels and Burg Pfalzgrafenstein.

The story of Lorelei was made famous by the well-known German poet, Heinrich Heine, who wrote about the legend in his poem titled “The Loreley” in 1824. Friedrich Silcher composed a song using this poem in 1837.

This mural was commissioned this year in honor of the 60th anniversary of Frankenmuth becoming “Sister Cities” with Gunzenhausen, Germany. This cultural exchange program was established in 1962. The People to People program, now known as Sister Cities, was created by President Eisenhower to ease international tensions after the Cold War.

The Bavarian Inn Lodge features 26 murals throughout the building, most of them spanning 30-40 feet.

The Lorelei Lounge and Schnitzelbank Bier Garten offers assorted full bar service, an expansive food menu from the Lodge’s kitchen, entertainment and outdoor walk-up bar service and seating during the spring-winter months.

Specialty dog shows, for breeds like the Newfoundland shown here, are a niche for the Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn Lodge.

Dogs rule: Bavarian Inn Lodge host hotel for 2022 Newfoundland Club of America Specialty Show in Frankenmuth

How one of Michigan’s most popular resorts has become a dog show destination

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. – April 29, 2022 – The Bavarian Inn Lodge will be welcoming 300 furry guests as the official hotel for the upcoming 2022 Newfoundland Club of America National Specialty Show, to be held Monday, May 9 through Saturday, May 14 at Frankenmuth’s Heritage Park, which is adjacent to the hotel.

This year’s dog show is part of an ongoing relationship with the Newfoundland Club of America, the first dog club to select the Bavarian Inn Lodge in 2001. During this time, the Bavarian Inn Lodge learned the process and special set up it takes to work with specialty dog shows. Consideration is given to the time of year the event is scheduled, days of the week, and the number of guest rooms to be booked by owners, handlers, and judges. Dogs are permitted at the Lodge only for specialty show events (unless they are service dogs for registered guests).

In the years since this inaugural show, the Bavarian Inn Lodge has been working hard to form partnerships with several specialty breed dog clubs. Other breeds with which the Bavarian Inn Lodge and Convention Center has worked with include the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America, Leonberger Club of America, and several clubs representing owners of Scottish Deerhounds, Italian Greyhounds, and Portuguese Water Dogs.

The special treatment accorded by the Bavarian Inn Lodge to dog show guests keeps show organizers coming back. The Lodge Housekeeping Department implements a series of unique procedures for all guest rooms with “show dogs,” as well as deep cleaning at checkout, assuring a pristine room for the next arriving guest.

In addition to serving as the host hotel, the Bavarian Inn Lodge helps connect specialty dog show organizers to nearby venues for their events through the Frankenmuth Parks and Recreation Department. There, organizers may choose from the expansive Harvey Kern Pavilion, Heritage Park, and the picturesque Cass Riverfront for show rings, grooming and staging areas.

The Bavarian Inn Lodge is within a short driving distance from Flint Bishop International Airport and MBS Airport in Saginaw, and within easy walking distance to a host of attractions, restaurants, and shopping. The Lodge itself offers dog show guests a wide range of dining and recreation options, making it a special place to be on the canine show calendar.
